First, a general hello to everyone, and thanks for running the server (I just joined today). I'm really glad I rediscovered this game, and that I've found this private server. Many moons ago, I would generally host games. But I am unable to host games on this server: I've banged my head on the walls over the technicalities (I've set the firewall to allow UDP & TCP connections; set IP static; set the router to forward appropriate ports (6112 individually in one port forward setting, and the 6112-6119 range in another as well)... But whenever I've tried hosting a game, I can't get anyone to join (even when hosting a DOTA version that is most popular -- still, no joiners). ( So, I think I'm about to give up on trying to host. So, I'm wondering, is there some limitation on who can host games on the server, or is it probably something wrong on my end? Any advice would be appreciated! Second: there's a great (no... GREAT!) game that I used to play all the time back in the day, called Hero Wars. I've never seen it listed among the games that I can join. Admins, someone, anyone, please check out this map: Hero Wars EE v 4.5. It's the latest version of the map created long ago by jumpyg. You can download the map from that link. It is really a great game -- lots of unique heroes to choose from and items to buy, towers to build, AI creeps, ways to upgrade yer creeps, ways to buy a wave of sort of various types of "super creeps," periodic 1v1 duels (with betting on the winner), etc. So, would some kind soul (who is able to host) consider giving Hero Wars a try? tl;dr version: 1. I can't host games. Help? 2. Someone PLEASE host Hero Wars. Map can be downloaded in link posted above (from epicwar.com). I think people will like it. (Hope this is in the right forum...) Thanks!
Hello, there is no limitation on hosting games so it's definetly something on your end. Are you using a router or a lan network network between two computers?
Hi Gix. I am using a router. After doing the necessary tweaks on my machine (setting IP static, and setting firewall rules to allow the right connections) I went to the router. I followed the directions I found to the "t" and after some untold number of hours of trying this, 'n' trying that, still I can't host. I found portforward.com to be useful resource (but it's not the only one I used). And still, no hosting 4 me. I've more or less given up -- it really was a mini-herculean effort (for me, at least). To answer your second question, I am not on a LAN between two computers. I remember long ago that I did have go through a similar process (port forwarding, allowing connections through the firewall), and that was more or less a piece of cake. This one... not so much.
If the machine you are using is behind a router you'll need to forward the necessary ports to it. Then there is no need to touch anything on the router. Step 2 : Put a static IP address of the computer you are using. *DO NOT SET THE REAL IP ADDRESS. Set something like this 192.168.0.15 or 192.168.1.15 I give different sub networks because I have no idea what your router is. Step 3 : As I said, redirect ports to this address - those that you need. Step 4 : Disable your firewall as well, u don't need her anyway. If there is something else I'll be glad to help you. Best Regards : OverseerSK
Thanks for the map, ex0pos, that's really useful!! If you do want to start hosting at some point, please let me know. Maybe we can set something up together?
